A classical two-level preview type driver model with a 6-DOF vehicle model is presented in this paper within the framework of driver-vehicle system approach. The model provides a firm basis for analysing vehicle handling dynamics. The paper aims to provide performance analysis of driver-vehicle system with ABS control and to explore the effects of active chassis intervention systems on the driver-vehicle interaction. Generic mathematical models of vehicle and driver are implemented. The time domain simulations in combined cornering and hard braking manoeuvre are studied through numerical simulations. The essential driver model parameters, namely driver preview time constant and driver delay time constant, are identified. Their effects are compared for systems with and without ABS control.
