/About other ends: climate change and the urgency of new futures
Abstract

This essay explores the idea of natural disaster and climate change as an imminent threat to humankind and to the planet Earth. It highlights the need to face the consequences that change the world and to understand the entities that intercede those changes; instead of looking for unique answers, points out to the importance of questions to guide shared ethical and scientific actions. Over the essay, examples of science fiction stories, that portray futuristic worlds affected by human actions, are used to give a glimpse of our own future. The importance of taking urgent measures to face climate change is also highlighted, recognizing the interconnection between climate, social and political issues. Finally, the essay proposes a careful look to the possibilities of transformation and alliance in present and future time, emphasizing the value of collaboration and care with the planet and all living things; an appeal to environment awareness and the pursuit for alternatives to mitigate climate change and protect the future of humankind.
