/Veteran sports in the rehabilitation and social integration system: international practices and the Ukrainian approach
Abstract

Abstract. The article analyzes the role of veteran and adaptive sports in the system of medical and psychological rehabilitation and social integration of war veterans in Ukraine. The international practices of the USA and Great Britain are considered, which demonstrate the high effectiveness of adaptive sports programs for restoring the physical, psychological and social state of military personnel after injuries and traumas. The current state of development of adaptive sports in Ukraine is analyzed, key problems are identified, insufficient inclusion of various sports areas, in particular the lack of specialists, insufficient infrastructure and fragmentation of projects. The need to create a national integrated program that combines sports, the fitness industry, rehabilitation and social support for veterans is substantiated. Purpose of the study: To analyze the international and Ukrainian experience of using adaptive sports in the rehabilitation of war veterans and determine the prospects for its integration into the national system of medical and psychological rehabilitation and social integration. Materials and methods. The study used the method of analysis of scientific publications and international practices, a review of the regulatory framework of Ukraine, a study of the experience of implementing adaptive sports programs in the USA and Great Britain, as well as an analytical method to assess the current state and problems of the functioning of veteran sports in Ukraine. Results. It was found that adaptive sports have significant rehabilitation potential in restoring the physical condition of veterans, in particular in improving motor functions, increasing endurance and reducing the manifestations of concomitant diseases. International programs, such as Gerofit, VA MOVE! and Multi Activity Course, have proven their effectiveness in reducing symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, depression and in forming motivation for an active lifestyle. Social effects, such as expanding the circle of support, increasing self-esteem and integration into the community, have also been confirmed by many studies. Adaptive sports in Ukraine are gradually expanding their capabilities, but their practical implementation is still fragmented due to the lack of specialists, low level of awareness of coaches, insufficient accessibility of sports clubs for people with disabilities, as well as limited awareness of the psychological consequences of war, in particular post-traumatic stress disorder, and physical injuries that affect the needs of veterans. Conclusions. Adaptive sports are an effective tool for comprehensive rehabilitation of veterans and should be integrated into the national system of medical and psychological recovery. The combination of physical therapy, sports practices and social support allows for sustainable positive changes in the physical, psychological and social state of veterans. To fully realize the potential of veteran sports, it is necessary to create a state program, expand the network of rehabilitation and sports centers, train specialized specialists and develop international cooperation. Key words: veteran sports, adaptive sports, veteran rehabilitation, social integration, post-traumatic stress disorder, physical activity, rehabilitation programs, international experience.
