Women play a vital role in rural food systems but remain undervalued and excluded in decision-making processes. Systemic exclusion from land rights, technologies, and governance weakens ecological resilience and human dignity. Integrating gender-sensitive approaches in sustainability is essential to avoid perpetuating injustice and ensure inclusive transformation. This research explores gendered power relations affecting sustainability in rural agricultural economies of the Global South. It emphasises inclusion, justice, and active community participation in sustainable agricultural transitions. The study contrasts top-down governance with community-led agroecology approaches to promote sustainability. Using intersectional analysis and transdisciplinary frameworks helps amplify women’s voices and promote fairness.
