This article develops a hybrid firearms training model for officer cadets at the Polish Air Force University, combining live-fire instruction with simulator-based practice using the ŚNIEŻNIK-1 system. The objective is to assess whether a structured combination of simulation and live fire can maintain marksmanship performance while reducing ammunition consumption and range-related logistical demand. The study adopts a comparative, scenario-based case-study design informed by the six-month officer-training context described for 2025 and by published literature on military simulation and shoot/don't-shoot training. Two representative cohorts of approximately 30 cadets each are used as analytical groups: a live-fire-only group and a hybrid group. Because the source manuscript does not provide raw individual-level observations or inferential test outputs, the quantitative values are treated as indicative scenario values rather than definitive experimental estimates. In the model, the final hit rate is 76% for the live-fire group and 78% for the hybrid group, while live ammunition use falls from approximately 130 to 80 rounds per cadet and estimated ammunition cost falls from about PLN 220 to PLN 140. Simulation also increases the number of safe practice repetitions and reduces range preparation requirements. The findings support a staged model in which simulator training is used to develop aiming, trigger control, target transitions and decision-making before live-fire qualification. Live-fire training remains indispensable for recoil management, muzzle blast, weapon handling under realistic conditions and final qualification. The study concludes that a hybrid model can improve resource efficiency without sacrificing the practical requirement for live-fire competence, provided that simulator-based outcomes are validated against operational training standards.
