Nabsys expands electronic genome mapping into AML and MDS through Indiana University partnership
Rhode Island-based Nabsys 2.0, LLC announced a multi-year research collaboration with the Indiana University School of Medicine to evaluate its electronic genome mapping technology in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), two hematologic malignancies where current cytogenetic methods leave gaps in structural variant detection. The agreement gives Indiana University access to Nabsys' OhmX Platform and pairs it with the cytogenetics expertise of Kevin Booth, Ph.D., FACMG, Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics and Clinical Laboratory Director at Indiana University Genetic Testing Laboratories. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The OhmX Platform analyzes ultra-long DNA molecules using electronic detection rather than optical imaging, generating high-resolution structural variant and copy number data. The collaboration will evaluate whether the technology can complement or augment fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and conventional karyotyping — two standard cytogenetic approaches that, respectively, interrogate limited genomic regions and provide low-resolution genome-wide views. Indiana University's role centers on assessing EGM within existing cytogenetic research workflows for AML and MDS, with scope to extend to additional hematologic malignancies and constitutional disorders over time.
The collaboration builds on Nabsys' broader academic expansion, following AML/MDS work with Columbia University and a separate assay development collaboration with Leiden University Medical Center. The company also plans to present additional AML and MDS data at the Cancer Genomics Consortium Annual Meeting.
