The excitement continues | Bibo Bio&MIT's second "Modern Biotherapy - Manufacturing Technology to Meet Regulatory Requirements and Market Demand" training course was successfully held

From June 29 to July 3, 2026, Bibo Biotech successfully hosted the second "Modern Biotherapy - Manufacturing Technology to Meet Regulatory Requirements and Market Demand" course in Shanghai. Following the first course in January 2025, this is an annual academic and industrial exchange event that Bibo Biotechnology once again joined hands with a team of professors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States.

opening

At the opening ceremony, Professor Charles Cooney, an industry leader from MIT, gave a keynote speech titled "Innovation in Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing". With his profound academic accumulation and sixty years of industry experience, Professor Cooney systematically sorted out the development context and key value innovation nodes in the field of biopharmaceutical manufacturing, and provided forward-looking guidance on the direction of the industry in the next ten years. He addressed the industry: "The sustained delivery of safe and efficacious medicine to the patient for >20 years", demonstrating his deep concern for the continued supply of medicines to patients.

round table discussion

In the ensuing roundtable discussion, Professor Cooney served as the host. Together with MIT Professors James Leung and Professor Jean-François Hamel, as well as Bibo Bioquality Director Keith Ellis, R&D Director Hu Hui, and MSAT Director Yu Qiming, they had an in-depth dialogue around the digital transformation of biopharmaceutical manufacturing and the changes brought about by AI, and had a lively interactive exchange with the on-site students.

Systematic teaching

After that, Professor James Leung and Professor Jean-François Hamel conducted four days of systematic teaching. The content of the course covers the knowledge system of the entire biopharmaceutical industry chain. From the perspective of the industry macro-structure, it deeply analyzes the evolutionary logic and differentiated regulatory framework of traditional recombinant proteins, monoclonal antibodies and biosimilars, and completely presents the full-process technical path from molecular screening, cell line development to commercial scale production. At the process level, it focuses on upstream cell culture strategy optimization and process amplification and transfer engineering practice, while integrating cutting-edge applications such as digital transformation, automated control systems, and artificial intelligence-assisted scientific research into teaching. Quality and safety dimensions run through the entire process. Based on the concept of "quality by design", sterility assurance, preparation filling and global compliance system construction are systematically taught, and innovative monitoring methods such as second-generation sequencing are introduced for virus safety prevention and control. The course also sets up a practical project practice session, where students, under the guidance of professors, can transform theoretical knowledge into complex problem-solving abilities through real cases.

The two professors carefully taught using examples, analogies, pictures and texts, and interacted with the students wonderfully, which enabled the students to have a deeper understanding of biomanufacturing process technology and a more comprehensive understanding of cutting-edge technologies and innovative concepts.

In addition to the key employees of Bibo Biotech in China and the United States, more than 30 students in this session were also fortunate to participate. Everyone generally felt that the short four-day course felt like being in a classroom by the Charles River. The professors' in-depth and step-by-step explanations helped everyone gain a deeper understanding of the development process, future directions and current cutting-edge technologies of biopharmaceutical manufacturing. Combined with their own work experience, many ideas suddenly became clear.

Factory tour

After the course, the two professors visited the second phase project of Bibo Biotech P03 factory with great interest. Recalling that in January 2025, the two professors attended the groundbreaking ceremony, the factory was still empty at that time; now, a super-large-scale production line cluster with a capacity of 50,000 liters of mammalian cell culture and 50,000 liters of microbial fermentation has been built here. From theoretical breakthrough to industrialization, this change is also the use of technology to change the world advocated by MIT professors.

While leading the fourth wave of biopharmaceutical manufacturing, Bibo Biotech has long been committed to building a communication bridge between academia and industry and promoting the industrial transformation of cutting-edge academic theories. The successful holding of this training course not only provides a high-quality learning and exchange platform for professionals in the field of biopharmaceutical manufacturing, but also injects new momentum into the high-quality development of the industry. As the world's leading biopharmaceutical CDMO service provider, Bibo Biotech will continue to join hands with all parties to jointly promote the innovative development of the biopharmaceutical manufacturing industry and contribute positively to the global biopharmaceutical industry.
