T&R Biofab patents tech on producing biomaterials from animal tissues
T&R Biofab, a company specializing in 3D bioprinting, said it has acquired domestic patents for manufacturing biomaterials derived from animal tissues and its method of printing 3D materials applicable to human transplants.

The patented technology can selectively remove acid decomposition enzymes used during the manufacturing process of animal tissue-derived biomaterials.
Acid decomposition enzymes are often used to ease up the formulation during the manufacturing of ECM-based materials. However, the enzyme may have cytotoxicity if some of it remained, causing side effects during the biomaterials' storing and transplanting process.
While old methods had difficulty selectively removing acid decomposing enzymes in the manufacturing process of biomaterials, the new technology can selectively remove them while preserving microstructures and physiological components of biomaterials, the company said in a news release Tuesday.
The technology is likely to become one of the primary methods for manufacturing biomaterials and can be applied to producing medical devices with advanced regeneration and reconstruction functions, it said.
T&R Biofab plans to secure high-efficiency biomaterials containing ECM biochemical materials with growth factors so that it can maximize reconstruction and regeneration of tissues, it said.
