Bumin doctor publishes English textbook on spine surgery

Bumin Hospital said its Heo Dong-hwa, director of its Spine Center, has published an English textbook on endoscopic spine surgery.

The book, titled "Advanced techniques of endoscopic lumbar spine surgery," was published by Springer Nature, one of the major publishers of medical books. The book holds five categories and 16 chapters, including the latest endoscopic surgery, which physicians are newly conducting, the hospital said in a news release.

Dr. Heo took part in its editing and production and wrote its fifth chapter, introducing the latest opinions on endoscopic spine surgery. The English textbook is gaining positive recognition from spinal surgeons in and outside Korea, the hospital said.

“In the past, endoscopic spine surgery was mainly conducted to treat intervertebral disks. Currently, indications are expanding due to innovative advancement of surgical methods and medical devices,” Heo said. “I expect this textbook will help surgeons better understand endoscopic spine surgeries, as it contains the latest findings and explains newly developed surgical devices.”

Although endoscopic spine surgery has recently made drastic advances, no textbooks provide knowledge on the latest developments. The book is expected to meet such demands, the hospital said.
