Vuno’s digital pathology solution reading cancer wins regulatory nod
Vuno said Thursday that the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has approved VUNO Med-PathQuant, a digital solution reading pathological images based on artificial intelligence).
The company expects its solution to become a digital tool to help healthcare providers determine the optimal treatment plan for patients with consistent analysis.
Vuno said Thursday that the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has approved its digital solution, VUNO Med-PathQuant, for detecting cells expressed in pathological images.
VUNO Med-PathQuant automatically detects and classifies cells and provides quantified data by reading images of stained tissue or cell samples based on AI.
Previously, medical experts had to quantify the number and ratio of cells expressed in immune-histochemical tests used in various cancers, including breast cancer and neuroendocrine tumor, for biomarker analysis.
However, the recently approved Vuno’s AI-based digital solution shortens the time required for reading images and provides consistent quality analysis, which showed accuracy above 90 percent in detecting cells compared to clinical pathologists.
Vuno said its digital image reader could rise as an innovative tool to enhance health providers’ workflow and help to build up treatment plans. The company plans to promote its solution to domestic and global mid-to-large size hospitals with digital pathology systems.
“Vuno has proven its excellent research and development skills by publishing various pathological study outcomes in global clinical cancer societies, such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), and leading academic journals like Clinical Cancer Research,” Vuno CTO Jung Kyu-hwan said. “With the recent approval of VUNO Med-PathQuant, we will continue to lead the AI-based precision medicine field by providing digital pathology solutions for quantification, diagnostic assistance, treatment, and prognosis.”
The company previously signed an agreement with Philips Korea to supply a solution with the same technology used in VUNO Med-PathQuant to large domestic hospitals this year. Vuno also plans to speed up marketing VUNO Med-PathGC AI, an AI solution for gastric cancer pathology that the company has prepared to conduct clinical trials, and expand business in digital pathology.
