Daewon Pharma reaffirms TG Fenon effective in hypertriglyceridemia

Daewon Pharmaceutical said that it found TG Fenon (Ingredient: fenofibrate choline) significantly reduces triglyceride levels, reaffirming its safety in phase 4 clinical trial of treating patients with hypertriglyceridemia.

The company compared triglyceride reduction between patient groups that received a combination of TG Fenon and statin drugs or just statins. The study was conducted in 15 institutions in Korea with 133 patients with complex dyslipidemia. By the eighth week in the study, patients who received combo therapy of TG Fenon showed a 45.58 percent reduction in triglyceride level, while the control group only showed a 1.11 percent decrease.

Researchers also found that the group that received TG Fenon plus statin reached the targeted triglyceride levels by 51.67 percent in the first month and 65.57 percent in the next month, showing a statistically significant difference from the control group’s 17.24 percent at week-8.

The company also reported that the combination of TF Fenon and statin drugs effectively improved hypertriglyceridemia as it decreased very-low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C) levels among participants compared to the control group increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C).

The combo therapy was also safe for use as no significant difference between the test and control groups in adverse events.

“The recent study reflects significant results as it is a randomized controlled trial conducted with a single fenofibrate drug in Korea for the first time in seven years, which reaffirmed the triglyceride reduction of TG Fenon,” a Daewon Pharmaceutical official said.

TG Fenon is a fenofibrate choline formulation that Daewon Pharmaceutical succeeded in tableting for the first time in the world. The company added choline salt to fenofibrate to hydrophilicity and made the tablets eluted in small intestines to enhance the absorption.

According to UBIST, a pharmaceutical market research firm, TG Fenon was prescribed worth 10.1 billion won ($8.56 million) last year, up 13.5 percent from 2019, and grew as a blockbuster drug in just four years after its launch.
