EzDiatech, a company specializing in in vitro diagnostics, has developed a blood test for concussion called “VEUPLEX TBI Assay.” It has won approval from the Ministry of Health and Welfare (No. 2025-095) and can be used in medical settings.

This approval is significant as it marks the formal recognition of a technology that enables accurate diagnosis of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), which is difficult to detect using conventional CT scans, according to EzDiatech.

VEUPLEX TBI Assay is a non-invasive technology that quantitatively measures GFAP (Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein) and UCH-L1 (Ubiquitin C-terminal Hydrolase L1), biomarkers of neurological damage, using only a small amount of blood.

EzDiatech explained that the VEUPLEX TBI Assay can quickly identify brain injuries that may be missed by CT scans, enabling more accurate and timely treatment decisions in emergency situations. It emphasized that the technology is particularly useful for patients with mild traumatic brain injuries caused by traffic accidents, sports injuries, or falls.

The VEUPLEX TBI Assay is classified as an evaluated new medical technology and can be used on a non-reimbursed basis.

“This approval is more than just a simple approval; it is an important turning point that could change the paradigm of concussion diagnosis technology,” EzDiatech CEO Jung Yong-gyun said. “We will strive to establish new diagnostic standards not only in Korea but also in the global market.”

EzDiatech is developing various neurological diagnostic platforms, including the VEUPLEX series. In addition to traumatic brain injury, the company is expanding its research scope to include early diagnostic technologies for degenerative brain diseases such as dementia and Parkinson's disease.
