Hanmi Pharmaceutical announced Tuesday that it has signed a business agreement with Teva Handok for the domestic distribution and sales of Ajovy, and will commence distribution and promotional activities starting this month.

The agreement aims to expand Hanmi Pharmaceutical's portfolio of therapeutic agents in neuroscience and to ensure a stable supply of innovative global drugs to the Korean market.

Ajovy is a humanized monoclonal antibody that binds to calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and blocks its interaction with the receptor. It is the only anti-CGRP monoclonal antibody formulation approved in Korea for migraine prevention that can be administered quarterly. It received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in July 2021.

Migraine is a neurological disorder causing moderate to severe pain that disrupts daily life, creating high demand in the medical field for effective and sustained preventive treatment options.

Hanmi Pharmaceutical and Teva Handok aim to strengthen their partnership to deliver innovative neurological therapies to Korean patients more efficiently.

“We expect that through our collaboration with Teva Handok, Korean migraine patients will be able to benefit from more effective treatments,” Hanmi Pharmaceutical CEO Park Jae-hyun stated. “Hanmi Pharmaceutical will strive to expand patient-centered therapeutic value based on continuous global partnerships and contribute to the development of the Korean pharmaceutical industry.”
