Celltrion said Wednesday that it has launched the liquid formulation of Remsima (infliximab) in Europe, further strengthening its leadership in the infliximab market.

The liquid formulation of infliximab is currently the only one in the world exclusively owned by Celltrion, and the company holds related patents. As this newly added formulation meets the needs of the medical field, Remsima's influence is expected to become even more firmly established through expanded product competitiveness and market impact.

Remsima is the world's first infliximab biosimilar developed by Celltrion and is used to treat autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis.

Celltrion's Nordic subsidiary achieved early success, winning national tenders in Denmark and Norway for the Remsima IV liquid formulation. After receiving European approval for the Remsima IV liquid formulation last November, the local subsidiary proactively prepared all necessary steps to ensure the product’s distribution through key national tenders, the company said.

Consequently, after winning the Norwegian bid, the company immediately began sales and scheduled product supply through January 2028, a strategy expected to secure approximately 35 percent market share in Norway’s infliximab IV market.

The Remsima liquid formulation expands the product options beyond the existing Remsima IV (100 mg lyophilized formulation) and Remsima SC, reflecting the needs of the healthcare field. European healthcare providers have consistently highlighted the need for a multidose liquid formulation that enables more efficient product storage and management while reducing the hassle of preparation.

By listening to these field voices, Celltrion continues to strengthen its field-centric sales and marketing activities, including the introduction of the Remsima 350 mg liquid formulation.

Celltrion expects the field-friendly liquid formulation of Remsima to enhance the competitiveness of the Remsima product line by enabling healthcare institutions to achieve administrative and cost savings. Compared to the lyophilized formulation, the liquid formulation can reduce preparation time by approximately 50 percent and cut labor and consumable costs by about 20 percent.

Furthermore, it can reduce storage space and associated costs by up to 70 percent, generating significant interest in Europe since its initial launch. The recent win in Norway’s national tender reflects recognition of these advantages, and these factors are expected to contribute to Remsima's competitive position in Europe, where tenders are highly influential.

Celltrion has filed patent applications for the Remsima liquid formulation and completed patent registrations in most countries, including the five major European markets (EU5) such as the U.K., Germany, and France. As Remsima is the only product sold in this liquid formulation, this exclusivity is expected to help maintain its influence in the infliximab market.

Following the world's first development and sale of the infliximab SC formulation, Celltrion has now secured the IV liquid formulation, making it the only company globally to establish a full lineup of infliximab IV (lyophilized and liquid) and SC formulations. Building on this, the company plans to further solidify brand trust in Remsima within the infliximab market and strengthen the foundation for expanding prescriptions across both Remsima IV and SC formulations to improve profitability. Additionally, it aims to reinforce its image as a differentiated company with unrivaled competitiveness in the biosimilar market by continuing to innovate products that meet the needs of the healthcare field, according to Celltrion.

Celltrion's strategy is to solidify its leadership in the infliximab market by expanding the launch of the Remsima liquid formulation in Europe this year, starting in Northern Europe and extending to France, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and other markets.

According to IQVIA, a pharmaceutical market research firm, as of the third quarter of last year, the Remsima product family (IV and SC) maintained its position as the top-prescribed infliximab in Europe with a 68 percent market share. Celltrion plans to continuously strengthen its market position by responding to diverse healthcare needs through its enhanced Remsima portfolio, supported by a full product lineup.

“As trust in Celltrion grows within the European biosimilar market, the Remsima liquid formulation, introduced to address the needs of the healthcare field, has demonstrated its competitiveness by winning tenders immediately after launch,” said Baek Seung-doo, Head of the Northern Europe Division at Celltrion.

He added, “We will continue our field-centric sales and marketing activities to provide European patients and healthcare professionals with better options, striving to expand prescriptions.”
