The company said it was invited to the meeting, which will be held in the evening at The Shilla Seoul, during Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s visit to Korea. Nvidia arranged the event for leaders of major companies and institutions involved in Korea’s AI infrastructure ecosystem.
The meeting comes as Nvidia works with governments and partners in different countries to build national-level AI infrastructure, often described as sovereign AI. The concept refers to a country’s ability to develop and operate AI based on its own infrastructure, data and talent, a strategy Huang has repeatedly emphasized as AI becomes a key part of national competitiveness.
Lunit said it will participate in the meeting as a representative company in medical AI and discuss possible healthcare cooperation in the sovereign AI era with Huang and other Nvidia officials. The company plans to highlight its experience in operating national-level cancer screening programs and its work on medical foundation models tailored to healthcare needs.
Lunit has formed a consortium with 23 industry, academic, research and hospital partners in Korea to develop a foundation model specialized for medical science as a government-backed project. The consortium recently released L1, its first model, as an open-source model.
L1 is designed for clinical reasoning and medical decision support while using an efficient structure that requires relatively low computing resources. According to Lunit, the model showed strong performance in major global medical AI benchmark evaluations, including HealthBench, a benchmark developed by OpenAI for healthcare AI.
Lunit has secured national and public cancer screening projects in more than 10 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia, giving it large-scale field experience in deploying medical AI in public health programs. The company has recently been expanding into medical foundation models.
“As sovereign AI expands into healthcare, countries need reliable AI that reflects their own medical data and population characteristics,” Lunit Chief Technology Officer Richard Yoo said. “Based on our open medical foundation model and experience accumulated through national-level screening programs, Lunit will work with global partners to contribute to the development of the medical AI ecosystem.”
Lunit has had ties with Nvidia since its early years. In 2017, the company was selected as one of five global AI startups recognized for their social impact at the Nvidia Inception Awards, Nvidia’s startup support program.
