Some embodiments include a barrel including 1) a muzzle and 2) one or more ports to provide recoil reduction, the barrel including a bore defining one or more rifling discontinuities arranged to prevent projectile striping, the barrel comprising: a first section containing all of the one or more rifling discontinuities; a second section rearward of the first section; wherein each port of the one or more ports comprises an egress in a length of the barrel, wherein each egress comprises an interior opening and an exterior opening, and wherein an entire portion of each of the one or more interior openings is located in the first section of the barrel.
