An example method for user assisted event-context management in an internet of things (IoT) environment is disclosed. The method includes detecting, via one or more IoT devices and one or more smart devices, at least one of one or more current actions of a user or one or more events in the IoT environment; detecting, via the one or more IoT devices, a current operating state of each of the one or more devices within the IoT environment and obtaining, from a database, one or more specified association rules indicating a relationship between each of a plurality of predefined user actions, a plurality of specified events, and pre-configured operating states of the one or more devices; and controlling the current operating state of the one or more devices based on the obtained one or more specified association rules.
