Methods for filling a trench are provided. The methods can include: straddling the trench with a vehicle comprising opposing rotational assemblies, wherein each of the rotational assemblies reside along lateral surfaces of the trench; matriculating the vehicle along the length of the trench, while matriculating the vehicle, one or more of: depositing fill material from the vehicle; grading deposited fill material using a grader of the vehicle; and/or compacting graded fill material using a compactor of the vehicle. Trench filling machines are also provided. The machines can include: a wheel base supporting a frame; and the frame supporting a drive train, at least one operator station, a fill material hopper assembly, a grading assembly, and a compacting assembly, all controlled from the at least one operator station, wherein one or more of the hopper assembly discharge, the grader of the grading assembly; and/or the compactor of the compacting assembly are operatively aligned at about midpoint between lateral ends of the wheel base.
