A method for mounting an object to a surface using an adjustable installation device includes positioning a surface-facing side of a foot plate and a head plate against the surface. The method includes moving the foot plate and head plate in opposite linear directions along the surface to adjust the distance between them. The method includes fixing the foot plate and head plate in place relative to one another at a defined distance. The method includes rotating the head plate relative to the foot plate to align a guide holes centerline on the head plate with a defined plane. The guide holes centerline extends across a center of each of a plurality of guide holes formed through the head plate.
