The component may comprise a composite structure comprising a substrate and cover and set of features (e.g. projections); the cover may comprise a light-transmissive layer; the set of features is configured to direct/reflect light from light source within cover toward the exterior surface of the cover; a visual effect is presented at the cover; the visual effect may comprise light effect (e.g. illumination, etc.) and decorative effect (e.g. texture, color, surface effect, etc.). The set of features is configured to present the light effect at the exterior surface of cover; light effect may comprise an image/pattern of features in an arrangement to present the image; light effect may comprise illumination, color effect, dynamic effect, depth effect, luminescence, directed light, reflected light, scattered/refracted light. The component may comprise a console, a panel, trim component, etc.
