A communication method and an apparatus are provided, including: A terminal reports backward compatibility information of a quality of service flow to an access network device; and the access network device determines an SLRB configuration based on the backward compatibility information that is of the quality of service flow and that is reported by the terminal, and sends the SLRB configuration to the terminal.

What is claimed is:
A communication method and an apparatus are provided, including: A terminal reports backward compatibility information of a quality of service flow to an access network device; and the access network device determines an SLRB configuration based on the backward compatibility information that is of the quality of service flow and that is reported by the terminal, and sends the SLRB configuration to the terminal.
