/Outer Skirts For Prosthetic Heart Valves And Associated Methods
Abstract

Prosthetic heart valves including an annular frame and an outer skirt and methods associated therewith are disclosed. The outer skirt is disposed on an outer surface of the frame. In some examples, the outer skirt a plurality of higher friction sections and a plurality of lower friction sections axially extending between inflow and outflow ends of the outer skirt and having an alternating arrangement around a circumference of the outer skirt. In a radially compressed state of a prosthetic valve, the higher friction sections are folded, forming interior folds, and the lower friction sections form exterior folds extending over and shielding the interior folds. In a radially expanded state of the prosthetic valve, the interior folds are unfolded, so that the higher friction sections are exposed on the exterior surface of the prosthetic valve. In some examples, a prosthetic valve includes one or more treated or coated surfaces or layers.
