In a quality of service (QoS) processing method, QoS requirement information of a multimedia service is generated, data packets of the multimedia service being categorized into a plurality of media types and mapped to a QoS flow, and the QoS requirement information indicating respective QoS settings for the plurality of media types. In the method, categorization information indicating an association relationship between each of the data packets of the multimedia service and a corresponding one of the plurality of media types is transmitted to a core network element in a communication system. In the method, the QoS requirement information is transmitted to the core network element. The core network element is configured to generate QoS policy information indicating QoS policies for transmission of the data packets of the multimedia service based on the categorization information and the QoS requirement information.
