Aspects of the present invention relate to a control system comprising one or more controllers, the control system comprising input means to receive a temperature signal indicative of a temperature of a transmission associated with a traction electric machine of a vehicle, output means to output a control signal for causing a fluidic communication of thermal energy from a heat source to a transmission heat exchanger for heating the transmission, and processing means arranged to control the output means to output the control signal in dependence on the temperature signal.
