/Golf Club Face With Roughness Characteristics For More Consistent Performance In Wet And Dry Conditions
Abstract
A wedge-type golf club head comprises unique surface roughness structures that improve spin in wet conditions by providing a system of peaks and valleys that grip the ball and relocate water from the hitting surface. The hitting surface can be characterized by statistical measurements such as average surface roughness (Sa), skewness (Ssk), root mean square gradient (Sdq), and developed interface area (Sdr) at different wavelengths including a composite band, a milling band, and a surface band. The surface roughness structure provides increased spin retention in wet conditions, while remaining durable.
