/We find in Fig.3(b) that most residues having the essential coordinates prefer unstructured or bend conformation, suggesting that these residues lack well-defined secondary structural element in the MG state. Next, we show the φ - Ψ correlation plot for residue PHE80 in Fig.3(c). Comparing to the Ramachandran plot, we find that the conformations in PHE80 mostly lie within helix, sheet and unstructured region. This is consistent to the data in Fig.3(b). On the other hand, the φ - Ψ correlation plot for VAL8 which is assigned as non-essential coordinate, suggests conformations only confined within the helix region (Fig.3(d)). Next, we characterize essential and non-essential coordinates in terms of S_P. We consider two data sets, one of the residues having the ECs and the other consisting of the remaining residues. The histograms of the structural persistence (H(S_P)) for these sets are shown in Fig.3(e).
