/Variants Mn-C2-B11 and Co-C3-F3 also carry a G253W substitution in the YgcG family protein, a protein that is predicted to have a transmembrane domain and is considered a putative phosphatase. This substitution was absent in variant Zn-C2-G5 and the WT, which served as the starting point for our aALE. Examination using STRING indicated that YgcG is functionally associated with the membrane stress resistance protein YqcG in E. coli.
